Getting started
Configuration
makev1.config.ts for product choices, environment variables for everything per deployment.
makev1.config.ts
The file at the repository root holds the choices you make once for your product. Every app reads it, and an invalid value fails the build.
export default defineConfig({
appearance: {
theme: 'makev1', // makev1, studio, paper or neutral
mode: 'system',
userCanChangeMode: true,
userCanChangeTheme: false,
userCanCustomize: false,
},
consent: {
policyVersion: '2026-10-01',
categories: ['analytics', 'marketing'],
},
billing: {
plans: [/* see the billing guide */],
},
});Environment variables
Anything that differs between development, staging and production, such as secrets, URLs and provider keys, is an environment variable. Each app has an .env.example listing all of them. See the environment reference.
The API checks its environment at startup and refuses to start with an unsafe production setup: the development secret, the embedded database, or email that only prints to the terminal.
